Klare, schön Ziegelrote Farbe. Deutliches und robustes Bouquet. Stallnoten. Am Gaumen dann aber leider nicht sehr überzeugend, jedoch mit anhaltendem Abgang. Zu jung?
Parker: The 2011 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Poggiale is a little awkward with heavier aromas of black olive and dried dill notes within dark fruit and spice. The harmony is not all there and varietal character is reduced. The blend is 90% Sangioveto with 5% parts each of Canaiolo and Ciliegiolo. By the way, I loved the 2010 vintage of this wine, so if given a choice buy that.
Castellare in Castellina makes some of the wines I most enjoy sampling throughout the year. But I don’t think this set of wines is one of their best. There are highs (I Sodi and Poggio ai Merli), but the Riserva and the ever-venerable Coniale are more troubling with slightly pungent overtones that could denote some winemaking issue.
